Parliament Votes in Favor of Ali Al-Zaidi’s Government

The Council of Representatives held its session today, Thursday (May 14, 2026), to vote on the ministerial program and grant confidence to the government of Prime Minister-designate Ali Al-Zaidi, attended by 270 lawmakers out of 329.

Below is the list of ministers who received the confidence of the Council of Representatives:

  • Approved by an absolute majority: Bassem Mohammed Khudair as Minister of Oil
  • Approved by an absolute majority: Mohammed Nouri Ahmed as Minister of Industry
  • Approved by an absolute majority: Ali سعد Wahib as Minister of Electricity
  • Approved by an absolute majority: Abdulhussein Aziz as Minister of Health
  • Approved by an absolute majority: Sarwa Abdul الواحد as Minister of Environment
  • Approved by an absolute majority: Abdulrahim Jassim as Minister of Agriculture
  • Approved by an absolute majority: Muthanna Ali Mahdi as Minister of Water Resources
  • Approved by an absolute majority: Mustafa Nizar Jumaa as Minister of Trade
  • Approved by an absolute majority: Khalid Shwani as Minister of Justice
  • Approved by an absolute majority: Abdulkarim Abtan as Minister of Education

The Council of Representatives voted to grant confidence to the government of Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi and its ministerial program.

The Coordination Framework holds an emergency meeting attended by Al-Zaidi and affirms unity and the completion of the ministerial cabinet after Eid

Leaders of the Coordination Framework held an emergency meeting at the office of Hadi Al-Amiri, attended by Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi, to discuss political developments and upcoming obligations. The meeting included congratulations to Al-Zaidi on his government gaining the confidence of Parliament, while emphasizing the unity of the Coordination Framework and the continuation of joint efforts to support political stability and protect the country’s higher interests. The participants also expressed appreciation for the efforts of former Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani during his tenure, while the Framework decided to proceed with completing the ministerial cabinet after the Eid holiday in accordance with political understandings and constitutional procedures. On the security and regional fronts, the Framework renewed its rejection of any attacks targeting neighboring or Arab countries, calling for respect for state sovereignty and the completion of investigations and measures necessary to safeguard Iraq’s security and stability.
