The Supreme Judicial Council hosted a meeting today, Tuesday, 17/3/2026, chaired by the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Dr. Faiq Zaidan. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Interior Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, the Minister of Justice Dr. Khalid Shwani, and the National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji, in addition to the Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Dhari Jaber, the Head of the Judicial Oversight Authority Judge Laith Jabr, and the Senior Investigative Judge of the First Karkh Investigation Court Judge Ali Hussein Jaffat.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the necessary security measures to protect prisons and detention centers for suspects.
The Minister of Interior and the Minister of Justice provided a detailed explanation of the procedures and fortifications required to secure the prisons in a manner that ensures reassurance and guarantees that no security breach of these prisons can occur.
The participants also called on media outlets to exercise accuracy when presenting information regarding the prisoners transferred from detention centers in Syria, and not to rely on analyses that are far from the reality of the situation. They emphasized that the measures taken to secure the prison designated for them are sufficient to prevent any potential breach.

Minister of Interior Abdul Amir Al-Shammari chaired the fifth regular meeting of the Higher Committee concerned with implementing digital transformation across the ministry’s departments for the year 2026, in the presence of senior staff and relevant stakeholders. The meeting witnessed an in-depth discussion of the topics listed on the agenda, as well as a review of progress rates in the automation of service and security departments. The Minister emphasized the need to accelerate efforts to achieve the strategic goals of comprehensive digital transformation, contributing to the elimination of bureaucracy and the simplification of procedures for citizens. The Iraqi Council of Ministers: Grants players and members of the coaching and administrative staff diplomatic passports.
In recognition of the historic achievement accomplished by the national team by qualifying for the 2026 World Cup finals, the Council of Ministers has decided to honor the national team players, as well as the coaching and administrative staff, and to adopt a package of measures to be submitted for approval at the next Cabinet session. These measures include: 1. Granting players and members of the coaching and administrative staff specially designed housing units that reflect this football achievement, in Al-Rafail Complex near Baghdad International Airport. Procedures will begin tomorrow. 2. Granting players and members of the coaching and administrative staff diplomatic passports. 3. Issuing a postage stamp to commemorate this achievement in the national memory. 4. Establishing a national mural (panorama) or memorial monument to commemorate the team’s qualification on Abu Nawas Corniche, including the names of the players and the date of the achievement. 5. Naming a main street in the capital, Baghdad, as well as in all provinces, “Lions of Mesopotamia Street.” 6. Establishing a museum or a special pavilion for this achievement at the headquarters of the Iraqi Football Association and the Sports City, with a section in the Government Palace Museum, documenting the players’ names, jerseys, and qualification photos. 7. Naming this year’s graduation cycles in all public and private universities and colleges as the “Lions of Mesopotamia دورة (Class).” 8. Producing a special national song, with the participation of a group of artists, with a title that reflects the achievement.
