The three presidencies held a meeting at Baghdad Palace today, Thursday, March 5, 2026, attended by the President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, the Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Haibat Hammad Al-Halbousi, and the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zaidan.
The meeting included an in-depth review of the latest security and political developments at the regional and international levels, as well as their direct implications for the internal situation in Iraq.
The participants also discussed the mechanisms adopted by the government to prevent the country from being drawn into external conflicts. They reaffirmed their support for the government’s measures to impose security and stability, protect the country’s sovereignty, and ensure the security of diplomatic missions, stressing the importance of preserving Iraq’s pivotal and balanced role in promoting security and stability in the region.
The three presidencies reiterated Iraq’s firm position rejecting the use of its territory as a launching point for attacks against neighboring countries or for threatening their security. They also rejected attacks targeting Iraqi cities, provinces, and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, considering them a violation of national sovereignty.
The meeting emphasized the necessity of an immediate halt to military operations in the region and respect for the sovereignty and independence of states. It also called on the international community to take urgent action to prevent the expansion of the conflict, stressing that reliance on negotiation and diplomatic solutions is the best way to spare the region the serious consequences of conflict at both the regional and international levels.
On the domestic level, the participants discussed the importance of accelerating the completion of constitutional obligations and strengthening national unity to confront current challenges. They also emphasized support for the government’s efforts to consolidate security and stability, improve citizens’ living and service conditions, and continue the path of reform and sustainable development.
At the conclusion of the meeting, those present stressed the need to support security measures aimed at maintaining security and order, and to hold accountable those who spread rumors through the media or social media platforms, as such actions pose a direct threat to civil peace and internal security, in accordance with legal and judicial procedures.

The Iraqi Council of Ministers: Grants players and members of the coaching and administrative staff diplomatic passports.
In recognition of the historic achievement accomplished by the national team by qualifying for the 2026 World Cup finals, the Council of Ministers has decided to honor the national team players, as well as the coaching and administrative staff, and to adopt a package of measures to be submitted for approval at the next Cabinet session. These measures include: 1. Granting players and members of the coaching and administrative staff specially designed housing units that reflect this football achievement, in Al-Rafail Complex near Baghdad International Airport. Procedures will begin tomorrow. 2. Granting players and members of the coaching and administrative staff diplomatic passports. 3. Issuing a postage stamp to commemorate this achievement in the national memory. 4. Establishing a national mural (panorama) or memorial monument to commemorate the team’s qualification on Abu Nawas Corniche, including the names of the players and the date of the achievement. 5. Naming a main street in the capital, Baghdad, as well as in all provinces, “Lions of Mesopotamia Street.” 6. Establishing a museum or a special pavilion for this achievement at the headquarters of the Iraqi Football Association and the Sports City, with a section in the Government Palace Museum, documenting the players’ names, jerseys, and qualification photos. 7. Naming this year’s graduation cycles in all public and private universities and colleges as the “Lions of Mesopotamia دورة (Class).” 8. Producing a special national song, with the participation of a group of artists, with a title that reflects the achievement.
