Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani conducted a visit to the headquarters of the 62nd Special Forces Brigade, part of the formations of the 1st Special Forces Division.
Upon his arrival, he chaired a meeting that included the Chief of Staff of the Army, the Commander of the Ground Forces, the Commander of the 1st Special Forces Division, and the Commander of the 62nd Special Forces Brigade. During the meeting, they reviewed security developments and field data regarding the readiness of the armed forces formations across areas of responsibility and assigned duties. His Excellency listened to a detailed briefing on the brigade’s missions and responsibilities within its sector, particularly in maintaining security and stability, especially in light of the exceptional circumstances in the region due to the ongoing war and its expanding scope.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces also met with the brigade’s heroic fighters and reviewed their level of combat and training readiness. He praised their high discipline, efficiency, and advanced levels of training and equipment.
He highlighted the importance of the role of the armed forces, in all their formations and branches, in protecting vital installations across the country, stressing the rejection of targeting military and security forces in all their forms and units.
He pointed to the formations and brigades of the Special Forces Division, including the 62nd Brigade, as elite forces characterized by high readiness and distinguished qualitative performance, ranked within international classifications. They possess some of the best weapons and capabilities and have the ability to carry out specialized operations in preserving the state and upholding the rule of law. His Excellency emphasized the need to continue training within the framework of development and modern methodologies that simulate the execution of special missions.

The Iraqi Council of Ministers: Grants players and members of the coaching and administrative staff diplomatic passports.
In recognition of the historic achievement accomplished by the national team by qualifying for the 2026 World Cup finals, the Council of Ministers has decided to honor the national team players, as well as the coaching and administrative staff, and to adopt a package of measures to be submitted for approval at the next Cabinet session. These measures include: 1. Granting players and members of the coaching and administrative staff specially designed housing units that reflect this football achievement, in Al-Rafail Complex near Baghdad International Airport. Procedures will begin tomorrow. 2. Granting players and members of the coaching and administrative staff diplomatic passports. 3. Issuing a postage stamp to commemorate this achievement in the national memory. 4. Establishing a national mural (panorama) or memorial monument to commemorate the team’s qualification on Abu Nawas Corniche, including the names of the players and the date of the achievement. 5. Naming a main street in the capital, Baghdad, as well as in all provinces, “Lions of Mesopotamia Street.” 6. Establishing a museum or a special pavilion for this achievement at the headquarters of the Iraqi Football Association and the Sports City, with a section in the Government Palace Museum, documenting the players’ names, jerseys, and qualification photos. 7. Naming this year’s graduation cycles in all public and private universities and colleges as the “Lions of Mesopotamia دورة (Class).” 8. Producing a special national song, with the participation of a group of artists, with a title that reflects the achievement.
