The Communications and Media Commission confirms that digital content is subject to media broadcasting regulations
News
The Communications and Media Commission affirms that the approved Media Broadcasting Code of Conduct and professional regulations are not limited to traditional media institutions, but extend to all forms of content published digital platforms, including content produced by bloggers, influencers, and celebrities on social media.
The Commission clarifies that any media content that violates professional standards or involves abuse, misinformation, or irresponsible discourse constitutes a clear violation, regardless of the platform on which it is published. Regulatory standards apply equally to appearances on satellite channels and digital platforms alike.
It further emphasizes that compliance with media broadcasting rules is a professional and legal obligation for everyone engaged in media activities or influencing public opinion. The nature of the platform does not exempt individuals from responsibility, nor does it grant any exceptions from the approved regulations.
In this context, the Commission notes that it continuously monitors and tracks content published across digital platforms, and that a record of professional compliance directly impacts opportunities for media appearances and engagement with licensed media entities, within the scope of its regulatory authority.
The Commission also confirms that the measures taken include intensive coordination with relevant judicial and security authorities to monitor and identify platforms that broadcast content inciting hatred or violence, or promoting misleading information that could destabilize societal stability. This is in addition to joint efforts with the Ministry of Communications, digital platforms, and social media networks to implement blocking decisions in accordance with the Commission’s regulations and relevant rulings of the Federal Supreme Court, particularly Decision No. (325 and unified with 331/Federal/2023).
Furthermore, the Commission announces that it has taken referral actions for blocking against a number of violating digital platforms, including social media platforms, in a manner consistent with the nature of violations committed in the digital space. It calls on bloggers, influencers, and content creators to adhere to professional standards and avoid publishing or circulating any non-compliant content, thereby contributing to fostering a responsible media environment that respects the law and safeguards social stability.
